Clinical Informatics

Healthcare information technology (HIT) is ubiquitous in the clinical settings. These systems should be designed to ultimately improve the quality of care by empowering providers and patients with actionable and evidence-based information at the most appropriate time. While the science of HIT implementation in the clinical setting is at its infancy, there is growing recognition of its utility in advancing medicine and research.

The American Medical Informatics Association, or AMIA (, is the center for scientific development of biomedical informatics for over 35 years. AMIA is the authority for advancing the field of informatics through the collective efforts of its members as well as leading the education, research, science and practice of informatics in the clinical settings.
